Cuculus canorus

Short abstract from the book:
The cuckoo is a common breeding bird all over Denmark. The birds arrive in early May and most have departed by the end of September. The first cuckoo was ringed in Denmark in 1919, with the highest numbers ringed in the late 1950s. Only 26 birds have been recovered, the majority of these ringed as adults. We have only very limited information on the migration route and winter quarters of the Danish birds, since all recoveries from autumn are from Denmark and no birds have been recovered during winter. In spring two birds have been recovered in Italy (30 April and 11 May) and 18 birds have been recovered in Denmark (all after 15 May). Twenty-eight cuckoos have been recovered less than 50 km from the ringing site (25 in a subsequent year). The mean distance between ringing and recovery site of seven birds ringed and recovered in June-July was 6 km.
