Short abstract from the book: The black redstart first bred in Denmark in the 1870s and
now breeds in most of the country, mainly in industrial and
urban centres, building sites and quarries. A few migrants pass
Denmark in March-May and October, and there is a small
wintering population in mild winters. The first black redstart
was ringed in Denmark in 1927, the highest numbers in 1976
(91). One of the ringed birds was recovered in Sweden the day
after it was ringed on Christiansø on 8 June. Two birds ringed
as chicks were recovered in France (20 October) and in Spain
(3 December). Birds ringed on migration in the Netherlands
(16 October) and England (25 October) were recovered in
Denmark in a subsequent breeding season. Four birds ringed in the breeding season in Germany (three as chicks) have
been found in Denmark – perhaps birds participating in the
northward spread.
