Caspian Gull

Larus cachinnans

Kaspisk måge

Kaspisk måge

Short abstract from the book:
Yellow-legged gulls and Caspian gulls are rare visitors in Denmark. They are most often observed during August-September among herring gulls in southern and eastern Denmark. Until recently, the two taxons, yellow-legged and Caspian gulls, were treated as the same species, and most individuals have not been assigned specifically to yellow-legged or Caspian. 17 individuals identified as either Caspian or yellow-legged gulls have been ringed in Denmark – mainly Caspian gulls ringed in Eastern Denmark in August. 11 of the 17 birds were ringed in their first year of life. Nine of the ringed gulls have been recovered (152 recoveries). One of the birds was controlled 121 times between September and April during six years (always within 6 km of the ringing site). Five of the birds were recovered from abroad: in Sweden (1), Poland (3) and Italy (1). 47 yellow-legged/Caspian gulls ringed abroad have been recovered in Denmark: 15 from Ukraine, 5 from Germany, 10 from Poland, one from Belarus and 16 from Italy. 10 of the Italian gulls were recovered in Denmark in their first autumn and three in their second calendar year.
