Short abstract from the book:
The kingfisher is a rather rare breeding bird in Denmark with an estimated population of 300 pairs, mainly breeding in central and eastern Jutland. The first kingfisher was ringed in 1933, with the majority ringed in the 1970s. The recovered birds were ringed throughout the year, seven as chicks. Seventy-one per cent of the birds were recovered within 10 km of the ringing site, and the mean distance for all 21 recoveries is 16 km. There is no preferred dispersal direction. None of the Danish birds has been recovered from abroad. Outside the breeding season, Denmark has been visited by kingfishers from Sweden (15), Norway (1), Germany (3) and Kaliningrad (1). Many of these were young birds recovered in their first autumn.
