Short abstract from the book: The common sandpiper is a very rare breeding bird in
Denmark but a rather common passage migrant in July–
August and in May.
In Denmark the first common sandpiper was ringed in
1935, with most ringed from 1950 to 1990. Most of the recovered birds were ringed in eastern Denmark, and only one
was ringed as a chick. The majority of the passage migrants
were ringed in July–August.
Most of the migrants passing Denmark come from Sweden,
but also Norwegian and Finnish birds have been ringed or
recovered in Denmark. From Denmark the migration is SW,
and birds have been recovered as far as southern Spain in
July. The route is rather broad with recoveries from coastal
sites as well as from inland in Germany, France and Spain.
A few birds have been recovered in tropical Africa and some
in southern Europe. The spring migration seems to follow the
same route as in autumn, with recoveries in Morocco (April
and May), and Belgium, Germany and Denmark in May.
In late May birds have been recovered in Norway, Sweden
and Finland.
