Short abstract from the book: The shelduck is a common breeding bird in most of Denmark,
and during autumn great numbers moult in the Wadden Sea.
The first shelduck was ringed in 1920, with most ringed in the
1960s–70s. Most of the recovered shelducks are Danish birds
ringed in April–July.
During July–November most shelducks are recovered in
the coastal waters around Zealand, Funen and Falster as
well as in the Wadden Sea, mainly in the German part. In
November the mean position is the German Wadden Sea,
where many birds have also been recovered during winter.
During winter Danish shelducks have also been recovered in
Britain and along the French west coast. Most of the recoveries in Britain and southern France are from hard winters.Ringed shelducks from Scotland, England, Sweden, Finland,
France and Germany have been recovered in Denmark,
most in August–October. The main known cause of death
is hunting, conducted in Denmark, France, Germany, the
Netherlands and Britain.
