Curlew Sandpiper

Calidris ferruginea

Krumnæbbet ryle

Krumnæbbet ryle

Short abstract from the book:
The curlew sandpiper is a fairly common passage migrant in the autumn but rarer in spring. In some autumns many juveniles visit Denmark. In Denmark the first curlew sandpiper was ringed in 1951, with the majority ringed between 1950 and 1980. The recovered birds were ringed in July–October, nearly all on Amager. The recoveries indicate that the passage migrants are passing southern Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea (Norway, Sweden, Poland, Latvia and Finland). The recoveries of birds ringed in Denmark give no information about the autumn migration from Denmark and further south. However, birds ringed in the Netherlands (August) and Portugal (July) have later been recovered in Denmark. In spring curlew sandpipers ringed in Denmark have been recovered in Tunisia and Italy, which indicates a spring migration through central Europe, probably east of Denmark.
