Short abstract from the book: Even though mild winters have favoured the bittern, it is still
a relatively rare breeding bird in Denmark. The first bittern
of a total of 58 was ringed in 1927. Eight have been recovered, three in the first autumn after ringing. Two birds were
recovered in Denmark, one in France (1 November) and one
in Belgium (20 March). The proportion of migrants in the
Danish breeding population is unknown. Four bitterns from
Sweden (3) and Finland have been found in Denmark from
October to February.
