Short abstract from the book: The partridge is a common breeding bird all over Denmark
and in addition great numbers are released every year for hunting. The first partridge was ringed in Denmark in 1921,
with the greatest numbers ringed in the 1960s. Most of the
partridges ringed in Denmark were released for hunting.
The recoveries show that the Danish partridges only disperse
over small distances: the mean distance between ringing and
recovery site was only 1 km. Eighty-eight per cent have been
recovered less than 1 km from the ringing site and only 0.7 %
more than 20 km from the ringing site. Partridges do not seem
to have any preferred dispersal direction. Most partridges have
been recovered as shot. The mean duration between ringing
and recovery is only 65 days, and 94 % were recovered in
their first year.
