Grey Plover

Pluvialis squatarola

Strandhjejle

Strandhjejle

Short abstract from the book:
The grey plover is a common passage migrant from late July to November and from March to May. Most birds are seen in the Wadden Sea. The first grey plover was ringed in 1951, with the majority ringed in the 1950s. Most of the recovered birds were ringed on Amager in September–October. Some continue on as early as August (one recovered in northern France), while others stay until November. The few recoveries indicate a migration route SW with autumn and winter recoveries in France and Britain. Grey plovers ringed in these areas during autumn and winter have been recovered in Denmark. A grey plover ringed in Denmark was recovered in Togo in early October, and a bird ringed in Gambia in November was subsequently recovered in Denmark. The first grey plovers arrive in Denmark in the second half of March, though most do not arrive until May. In spring grey plovers have been recovered in England (1 May), France (27 April to 30 May) and Siberia (25 May).
