Northern Hawk-owl

Surnia ulula

Høgeugle

Short abstract from the book:
n Denmark the hawk owl is a very rare winter visitor observed only during invasions in southern Scandinavia. The largest invasions ever recorded in Denmark were in 1983-84, when several hundred hawk owls were observed, and in 1989- 90 when 16 birds were recorded. In Denmark two hawk owls have been ringed, both in autumn 1983 and both on Amager. Neither of these birds has been recovered. A bird ringed as a chick on 26 June 1983 on Velikiy Island in the White Sea in northwest Russia was found dead in western Zealand on 6 July 1984 (1,697 km SW).
