Short abstract from the book:
The osprey is a very rare breeding bird in Denmark with
only one documented breeding pair since 1994. The osprey
is a common passage migrant in April-May and August-September. In Denmark the first osprey was ringed in 1955;
in total only seven birds have been ringed, and none of these
has been recovered. Seventy birds ringed as chicks abroad
have been recovered in Denmark: 58 from Sweden, six from
Finland, four from Norway, one from Scotland and one from
Germany. The longest distance was from northern Finland
to eastern Jutland (1,419 km). The first adult ospreys have
been recovered in Denmark in July and the first juveniles in
early August. Most of the foreign ospreys were recovered in
September. Most adults seem to have departed by October
(last recovery 5 October), but more juveniles have been recovered in October (7 birds) and November (3). The first birds
recovered in spring were on 10 April, with most recovered in
May. Relatively few ospreys were recovered in their second year
of life, indicating that many do not migrate this far north in
their first summer.
