Purple Sandpiper

Calidris maritima

Sortgrå ryle

Sortgrå ryle

Short abstract from the book:
The purple sandpiper is rather rare passage migrant and winter visitor to Denmark. The first purple sandpiper was ringed in Denmark in 1963, with the majority ringed between 1999 and 2002. The recovered purple sandpipers were all found close to the ringing site. Eight recoveries were from later in the same winter (up to 115 days) and eight birds were recovered at the ringing site in a subsequent winter, which indicates some degree of site fidelity both within a winter and between winters. Three birds ringed on Nidigen in Sweden have been recovered in Denmark, one in the same winter it was ringed.
