Short abstract from the book: The red-crested pochard bred in Denmark from 1940 to the
late 1960s, but since that time it has only bred occasionally. In
Denmark most red-crested pochards were ringed at the former
breeding site in Nakskov Fjord, either in duck decoys or as
ducklings in the nest.
The recoveries indicate that most of the Danish red-crested
pochards migrated SSW to the Camargue (first recovery 15
August). During winter red-crested pochards have also been
recovered from other parts of France as well as from Spain, Italy,
Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark. The most northern
recoveries are all of birds in their first winter. By April the birds
had returned to Nakskov Fjord. The largest proportion of the
recovered birds had been shot (78 % of all dead) .
