Short abstract from the book: The snow bunting is a common passage migrant and winter
visitor in Denmark. The first snow bunting was ringed in
Denmark in 1925, with the highest numbers ringed in the
1960s. The recovered birds were ringed from 30 November to
18 March, nearly all in Bygholm Vejle in northwest Jutland.
No foreign birds have been recovered in Denmark. Only one
of the ringed birds has been recovered in the breeding area.
This bird was ringed in the Danish Wadden Sea in March
1961 and recovered in Iceland on 10 May the same year. The
other recoveries indicate that some of the birds remain at the
same location for up to 44 days. One of the birds ringed in
northwest Jutland was recovered in Schleswig-Holstein later
the same winter. The recoveries indicate some degree of winter
site philopatry, since six birds were recovered at the ringing site
a year after ringing and two birds in the subsequent year.
