Short abstract from the book: The wheatear is a rather scarce breeding bird in Denmark
and a common passage migrant. The birds arrive in April
and the last depart in late October. The first wheatear was
ringed in Denmark in 1921, with the greatest numbers ringed
in 1957 (234) and 1969 (201). Half of the recovered birds
were ringed as chicks and most of the remainder were ringed
during the migration season. Eleven foreign birds have been
recovered in Denmark. The recoveries indicate that most of
the passage migrants come from southern Scandinavia, a few
from northern Norway and Finland. From Denmark the
wheatears migrate SW. In September the mean position is in
southern France. One bird was recovered in Morocco; none
have been recovered in winter. During spring all recoveries
are from Denmark or further north. Two birds ringed as
chicks were recovered in a subsequent breeding season. One
was recovered at the ringing site (after two years) and one 6
km from the ringing site one year after ringing.
