Short abstract from the book: The whimbrel is a common passage migrant in July–August
and April–May. The first whimbrel was ringed in 1947, and
most were ringed in the 1950s–1970s. All the recovered whimbrels were ringed on Amager from April to September. One was
recovered on 15 August in northwest Russia and this is the only
recovery from the breeding area. From Denmark the migration is SW. Autumn recoveries indicate a rather broad-fronted
migration. A bird ringed on 12 August was recovered in Togo
on 14 September the same year. In spring birds have been recovered in France (9 May) and Belgium (10 May). Some birds
ringed in Belgium in late April to mid-May have been recovered in Denmark during autumn, most in western Jutland.
