Short abstract from the book: The whinchat is a rather common breeding bird in areas with
rough grassland, mainly in western Denmark. It is a common
passage migrant in August–September and May. In Denmark
the first whinchat was ringed in 1922, with most ringed between 1965 and 1997. The few recovered birds were ringed
from May to August, three as chicks. The recoveries indicate
that the passage migrants come from Finland, Sweden and
Norway. The Norwegian birds mainly pass Jutland, whereas Finnish and Swedish birds pass eastern Denmark. From
Denmark the birds migrate SW, and two birds have been
recovered in September in Spain and Portugal. No birds
have been recovered during winter. In spring a whinchat was
recovered in Morocco on 19 April and a bird ringed in Italy
in May was later recovered in Denmark. A bird ringed on
Christiansø in August was recovered in the Lebanon during
spring. A whinchat ringed as a chick in northeast Germany
was recovered on 3 October in its first autumn in western
Jutland.
